2. Debate:  "Belgium's Al-Qaeda-image in the US" (5/27/04)

It is well known that at the present moment Belgium is not a highly appreciated partner for our partners in the US. In recent times, lots of faults were made. The economic consequences of recent diplomatic incidents are serious: for many entrepreneurs in the port of Antwerp things are getting worse in respect to economic relations with the US.Also, some TV- programmes in the US suggested that terrorist often consider Europe as a safe haven. The section Antwerp of the Euro-Atlantic Association of Belgium wanted to discuss these matters and therefor organised a debate with panel on Thursday 27th of May, in the auditorium of Fortis-Bank in Antwerp.

The panel consisted of former NATO secretary-general and minister of StateWilly Claes, minister of State Herman van Rompuy, minister van State Annemie Neyts, US col. William Bergman and Todd Huizinga, member of the US mission to the EU.

You can find an article and more photos of this succesfull initiative on the website of the Antwerp-hosted magazine Den Brabo (only in Dutch)
